Best of HBXWM in 2019
With 2019 coming to an end, we’re reminiscing over the past 12 months, looking back at the most noteworthy events such as the evolution of the dramatically mini bags and new brands like Kirin introduced by multi-talented designer Peggy Gou, and the revival of the ’90s-inspired trends that shaped the year for HBXWM.
New To HBXWM
As Virgil Abloh‘s Off-White™ arrived to HBXWM for the first time for the FW19 season, our selection encompasses a wide array of logomania-infused apparel and accessories, including the Jitney “Cash Inside” Bag, the world’s hottest fashion product of 2019, as ranked by the Lyst Index from his “His & Her” and “Do Your Cheer” Collections. At Paris Fashion Week 2019 , Virgil also unveils his Spring/Summer 2020 “PLASTIC” Collection, introduced a joint release with Nike and a concise lineup of Futura’s graffiti-adorned staples.
With the emergence of female-led streetwear brands such as AMBUSH®, Hyein Seo and Marine Serre, Kirin (meaning giraffe in Korean) was founded by Korean DJ, fashion icon and designer Peggy Gou. First made its debut at Paris Fashion Week 2019, the label was supported by a slew of industry heavyweights, It-girls and celebrities including the likes of Off-White™ designer Virgil Abloh, Sita Abellan, Marcelo Burlon, Yoyo Cao and AMBUSH‘s Yoon Ahn, to name a few. As Gou embarks on a new creative journey to bridge her passion for music, art and fashion, she brings forth an eclectic range of workwear silhouettes, taking plenty of references from her own personal style, such as the Typo Field Denim Jacket, Smile Jac Fur Collar Bomber Jacket and Smile Faux Fur Bucket Hat.
Sporty & Rich
The spread of sportswear to everyday life is now being linked to one’s desire to appear healthy and minimal, with such a positive mindset, Emily Oberg‘s streetwear label Sporty & Rich has arrived to HBXWM featuring the label’s signature hoodies and crewneck sweatshirts alongside a slew of day-to-day staples, all staying true to the imprint’s minimal, sporty aesthetic. Since building out Complex Magazine’s video platform online, the Canadian-born designer held the role of the creative lead of KITH Womens, and now works as a brand consultant while expanding on her own lifestyle label, Sporty & Rich. Starting out as a personal vision board representing her vintage, 90’s-inspired mind, the brand has quickly expanded into a print magazine and now, a thriving clothing line.
Stay tuned for our upcoming exclusive collaboration with Oberg.
Marine Serre’s All-over Moon Prints
Former LVMH Prize Winner Marine Serre‘s iconic crescent moon designs have been taken the fashion world by storm, and are frequently seen spotted on the likes of Beyoncé, Kendall Jenner, Katy Perry, and more. Highlighting Serre’s sustainability-focused efforts on her Fall/Winter 2019 “Radiation” collection, almost half of her FW19 staples crafted from her upcycled materials, setting the tone to employ similarly conscious craft for future seasons. Other big names such as K-pop singer Sandara Park and Japanese model Emma Komatsu were wearing the label’s sough-after logomania pieces at Serre’s Paris Fashion Week SS20 show.
With the revival of suits, the silhouette has been reimaged in varied forms as one of the most versatile staples from runways to streets across multiple centuries. Tailored two-piece and casual blazers have become universal garments that have been adapted by luxury brands such as LOEWE, BURBERRY and Maison Margiela, as well as streetwear labels like Heron Preson, Helmut Lang and R13. Notable pieces are the BURBERRY Straight Fit Contrast Check Cotton Trousers which arrive in the label’s iconic Nova Check and R13 Deconstructed Oversized Boyfriend Blazer which features vertical stripes throughout.
BY FAR was founded in 2016 by twins Valentina and Sabina, and their best friend Denitsa. The brand quickly earned a cult following among the fashion crowd with its modern pieces with a nostalgia for vintage and ’90s coolness. Made with an appreciation for the finest materials, outstanding quality and comfort, the contemporary fashion label is best known for its mini bags, simple booties and square-toe sandals and is frequently seen spotted on It-girls such as Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Hadid sisters, Karlie Kloss, to name a few. We’ve teamed up with BY FAR reimagining the label’s signature Mini Croco Embossed Calf Leather Bag in a fresh, baby pink hue.
Bulky footwear continues to reign supreme season after season, various brands such as Prada, Maison Margiela, EYTYS and more brought forth their own interpretation of the chunky shoe by popular demand. Riding on the bulky sneaker trend, we joined forces with Buffalo London. Our exclusive joint release sees the cult favorite Classic Low Top Platform Sneaker reimagined in a pastel-hued palette, with soft shades of baby blue, pink and lilac dominating the signature chunky, oversized sole.
