Founded in 1994 by Hardy Blechman, Maharishi was established with a vision to create environmentally sound, fair-trade produced, long-lasting, high-quality, utilitarian clothing. Maharishi, translated literally to 'great seer', aka ' great vision in clothing' in Sanskrit, the label explores the dualistic nature of the universe. The label's mission is expressed through blending Eastern and Western silhouettes and graphic influences, taking a pacifist approach to military-grade utilitarian design, representing camouflage as a symbol of nature and art, and respecting nature whilst utilising technology. The label's iconic Snopants® was born in 1995, an original design concept with unique detailing that became a significant style statement and the label’s signature design identity.
