Introducing to HBXWM: Kirin
[socials/]Kirin (meaning giraffe in Korean) is a streetwear label founded by Korean DJ, fashion icon and designer Peggy Gou. The line first made its debut at Paris Fashion Week 2019, where it was supported by a slew of industry heavyweights, It-girls and celebrities including the likes of Off-White™ designer Virgil Abloh, Sita Abellan, Marcelo Burlon, Yoyo Cao and AMBUSH's Yoon Ahn, to name a few. Comprising of vividly eccentric two-piece sets, dresses, jackets, knit jumpers and oversized scarves, the brand seamlessly blends bold color blocking, Korean mythology and of course, club culture. Scroll through to see Hong Kong based social media and fashion influencer Irisa Wong star in our exclusive editorial that spotlights key highlights from Kirin's debut collection.
As Gou embarks on a new creative journey to bridge her passion for music, art and fashion, she brings forth an eclectic range of workwear silhouettes, taking plenty of references from her own personal style, such as the Multicolor Typo Drill Shirt and matching wide leg Pants. Emblazoned with the brand's name in an assortment of fonts, colors, and presentations, striking branding verbiage can be seen throughout the club culture inspired designs. Elsewhere, mythological Korean motifs are rendered on satin pyjama sets, dress shirts and belted kimonos, with the legendary "Haetae" creature playfully featured across an expansive color palette.
Other highlights encompass a concise line-up of smiley-face embossed graphic staples like the statement-making neon green Fur Collar Bomber Jacket and retro, zippered Padded Mini Dungaree Dress. Also included in the drop is a twisted gun print designed by Jae Huh that takes a stance against gun violence. The emblem emboldens several pieces in the range, including a button-down viscose Mini Pajama Dress, a pair of orange-hued Boyfriend Denim Pants and a fleece Cropped T-shirt. Rounding out Kirin's inaugural release is an array of cold-weather accessories: ultra-bright faux fur hats, cozy oversized scarves and striped knee high socks.
