Steal Their Look is where we recreate outfits of all your favorite fictional characters and pop culture personalities, as inspired by the satirical internet meme of the same title. In the latest edition, we highlight silhouettes worn by siblings of The Endless and their counterparts in the Dreaming, the waking world, and Hell.
The Sandman, which premiered on Netflix on August 5, is an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed comic book of the same name. Published by DC Comics, the story follows Dream, one of the seven cosmic entities called The Endless, who seeks to restore his realm after being imprisoned by a sorcerer for over a century.
Dream
Also known as Morpheus or the Sandman, he rules the Dreaming, the world where people go when they dream. His entirely black, loose, and draped outfits remind one of Rick Owens, whose designs inspired by architecture and utopian ideals earned him the title of "The Lord of Darkness," paralleling the Dream Lord's enigmatic persona.
The Corinthian
A nightmare who escaped the Dreaming, the Corinthian often sports sand-colored tones much like his creator's sand tool. His sleek look is completed by a pair of sunglasses to disguise his lack of eyes from mortals of the waking world.
Lucienne
Lucienne wears what one would expect of a true old-fashioned librarian -- a waistcoat and reading glasses. The trusted guardian of Dream's realm has also accessorized her outfit with a tie, a stylish decision that defy any aesthetic stereotype made against academics.
Joanna Constantine
The necromancer and occult adventurer wears a trench coat like her descendant John Constantine, whom she replaces from the comic book for the TV adaptation. While John's signature trench coat was known to wane and get grungier, Johanna's is more posh, much like her clients such as the Royals.
Lucifer Morningstar
Previously known to be one of the most powerful and beautiful of all angels, Lucifer was cast out of Heaven and sent to rule over Hell after failing a rebellion against God. From the black leather vinyl dress to the white flowy robe gown, Lucifer is often in oversized silhouettes with exaggerated shoulders as if their closet is a couture collection.
Death
As opposed to the fear and malice one associates with the word "Death," Death is actually the wiser, kinder, and more sensible sister of the Endless family. Staying true to the comics, the Netflix character wears a tank top and slim-fitting black pants. Complete the outfit with a choker and combat boots for a more gothic look.
Desire
Desire lives in the heart of a massive flesh-and-blood statue of itself and is known to be the cruelest of the Endless who acts without thinking about consequences. Other than being self-centred and fickle like the emotion, its appearance is the embodiment of everything one wants -- an alluring feline figure hugged in skin-tight black clothing complimented by bold statement jewellery.
Despair
The twin of Desire, Despair is described as "the moment when all hope is gone." While she is supposedly the bleakest of the Endless, her outfit comprising a knit cardigan and jeans is the perfect mix of casual and comfort and on-trend at that with the shoe pairing of crocs.
