Aesop joins forces with sustainable fashion pioneer RÆBURN, developing a responsible solution for portable hand care.
Aesop is a global skin care brand, established in Melbourne in 1987. Their objective has always been to formulate skin, body and hair care products of the finest quality, as well as fragrance and accessories for the self and home. We investigate widely to source plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients and use only those with a proven record of safety and efficacy. Aesop has chosen to collaborate with RÆBURN for his pioneering efforts in sustainable fashion. Christopher Raeburn has established his eponymous brand, RÆBURN, which has pioneered the reworking of surplus fabrics and recycled materials to create functional pieces. Sharing the same devotion as Aesop to functionality and purpose, RÆBURN’s ethos is underpinned by three key pillars: RÆMADE, RÆDUCED, RÆCYCLED. "When we look at everything that Aesop is doing and the products that are developed, always with people and planet in mind, there is a lot of alignment and shared principles in the way we both approach things." says Christopher Raeburn during his interview with HYPEBEAST. Beyond the 300 pieces in this limited-edition, the RÆMADE Adventurer Roll Up is also intended to inspire and encourage customers to make their own unique version. The two specific geographies of maps are original 1960’s aeronautical maps used by the Royal Air Force and then actually by other Air Forces around the world. One of them is around Borneo and the Java Sea; an area heavily affected by deforestation and Palm Oil plantations. The second map is showing the Aral Sea, which has now been replaced by desert, with ships standing as tall relics in the middle of what used to be rich waters. Ultimately, they’ve chosen these two locations as they signify the environmental impact we are having on the planet. But beyond that, maps bind us all together as people, globally.
