There's a new fascination for pulling together divergent ideas to create new experiences. Fusing the traditional with the modern — Two disparate worlds of garment construction temper one another to dismantle archetypal silhouettes. Our 2017 Fall/Winter "Dualism" Editorial explores a dynamic style approach where the "conventional" and the "modern" inform each other through conflict.
Disfiguring the familiar — Traditional dress and modern outfitting are remixed. Tailored garments are cast against modern designs to inspire newer, more pristine ways of thinking about conventional textiles and advanced tech fabrics. An oversized Stone Island bomber jacket is paired with wide-legged Sasquatchfabrix. Balloon Pants, while a long A.P.C. Chester Jacket is layered over the MISBHV Ecstacy Half-Zip Sweater. PLEASURES, HUMAN MADE, Rick Owens DRKSHDW and other brands are also brought into the mix.
Clashing silhouettes are pulled together so that the eye travels from one piece to another to be viewed as separate objects on a single outfit. The result is Dualism: A strange tension that riff off opposing mismatches and creates a new viewing plane — Dissimilar styles invite the eye to appreciate each garment individually.
