After a six-year hiatus from the runways, Marni’s menswear division returns in style to present its 2016 spring/summer collection. The Italian brand is known for delivering standout pieces that imbue classical tailoring with vibrant prints and a vintage bohemian aesthetic, and its comeback to the catwalk this season reinforced this reputation. By eschewing her usual fashion presentations, head designer Consuelo Castiglioni emphasized the quirks of her menswear collection in a more dramatic light. The traditional oxford shirt is styled with voluminous elasticated sleeves, the sneaker-sandal hybrids dressed up with a full suits, and the shocking tropical print fabric peeking out from subdued blazers were signs that the brand has only increased in vivacity throughout its 22-year lifespan. Even though Marni hasn’t moved too far from its retro roots, the menswear offerings this season were highly influenced by modern art and urban athleticism. Highlights of the collection include hybrid sneaker-sandals made from futuristic neoprene and mesh, as well as vividly printed basics designed in collaboration with artist Jack Davidson.
