Formed in 2008 by friends from New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo, Japan, Kinfolk evolved from a desire to create products and experiences that the founders imagined, but couldn’t find to purchase. For Spring/Summer 2016, the Brooklyn-based brand has created a collection titled “Planet K,” which refers to a place “engineered from the meta-futurist aesthetic of Tokyo in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and features references to popular American iconography, Eastern design and the dialect of philosophy.” Among the highlights from the range are seasonal essentials like flight jackets and windbreakers, accompanied by street-ready graphic tees, headwear, sweatshirts and patterned shirting.
