Toronto-based brand The Common-Folk specializes in blending historical Japanese silhouettes and fabrics with modern design sensibilities. Founded by Joseph Azulay, the brand works closely with Japanese fabric mills and denim brands, with a focus on highlighting traditional textile craftsmanship such as the shuttle loom weaving and indigo dyeing processes.
Inspired by the Yukata, a casual summer kimono jacket, this garment features iconic features of the design such as the straight front collar and chest panel. Crafted from lightweight cotton denim dyed indigo, the jacket is accented with traditional red selvedge along the bottom of the yoke, hidden selvedge ties and a vinyl heat press of a Japanese antique letter.
Handmade in Toronto using rare Japanese textiles woven on vintage shuttle looms in Okayama, Japan Shop The Common-Folk
