While stadium-sized bass reverberated across Hong Kong during The Weeknd’s monumental After Hours Til Dawn tour run, an equally compelling frequency resonated beneath Central. For one evening only, French producer and sound architect Prince 85 took over Hypebeans and BELOWGROUND in Landmark to stage “The Signal.” Part live showcase, part design retrospective, the pop-up brought stadium-tier production down to ground level.
Anchoring the marble corridor was the evening’s centerpiece: Prince 85’s fully custom tour console used across Europe and Asia. Constructed from angular chrome and polished sheet metal, the flight-cased deck balances dual suspended digital monitors with an analog control surface engraved with his signature branding. Flanked by stark graphic portraiture, the rig felt less like conventional DJ gear and more like a tactical cockpit pulled straight from a sci-fi neo-noir film.
To accompany the installation, a concise capsule collection dropped exclusively on-site. The lineup spotlighted a glossy black MA-1 flight jacket emblazoned with high-voltage teal embroidery reading “The Signal was there all Along…”, alongside heavyweight black tees featuring high-contrast halftone prints of his shadowy visage.
Widely revered as the phantom sonic force behind The Weeknd’s “Die For You” and frequent collaborator to Mike Dean, Future, and Don Toliver, Prince 85 used the intimate takeover to translate his dark, brutalist studio aesthetic into a tangible, physical experience. Compressed into the walls of Hypebeans, “The Signal” proved that the most potent transmissions are often discovered beneath the surface.
