The intersection of Japanese subculture, luxury retail, and vintage apparel took center stage in Central. Organised by Japanese department store powerhouse PARCO, fashion project GEEKS RULE brought its tour to Gallery HBX at LANDMARK ATRIUM. The pop-up transformed high-end street fashion space into an archive celebrating the golden era of 1990s graphic apparel.
The Craftsmanship Behind the Drop
GEEKS RULE treats graphic tees not as quick merch, but as historical artifacts. What made the pieces featured in Hong Kong stand out was their craftsmanship:
- 15-Color Silk-Screen Printing: Utilizing specialized plate-separation techniques, each shirt requires up to 15 print layers—a process executed using rare, vintage machinery in Japan.
- The 90s Vintage Aesthetic: Heavyweight cotton fabrics, cracked-ink textures, and deep contrast prints replicate authentic 1990s anime apparel.
Hong Kong Exclusive Lineup
The collection presented at Gallery HBX spanned six graphic tees across three iconic titles:
- Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc: Featured a stark, memorable scene print alongside a re-release of the viral teaser visual tee.
- Dandadan: Highlighted an official "Okarun" graphic originally produced for Jump Festa.
- Neon Genesis Evangelion: Three distinct tees featuring 1990s LaserDisc jacket artwork of Rei, Asuka, and Misato, finished with classic NERV logo back-prints.
The Cultural Impact
By hosting this pop-up at Gallery HBX, GEEKS RULE and PARCO successfully bridged the gap between Otaku fandom and high-street fashion. Enforcing a strict "one piece per item" limit to maintain exclusivity, the event proved that vintage-inspired anime merch has firmly established itself as a legitimate subsegment of modern luxury streetwear.
