For those planning on confessing their love on February 14th, Babylon unveils a video editorial inspired by the story of the rose from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s novella, Le Petit Prince, as well as a playlist to listen to with your dearest.
In the iconic novella’s tale of the rose, the little prince falls in love with a beautiful rose he grows and tames when it lands on his asteroid one day. Although vulnerable and defenseless, with its thorn, the rose puts on a melodramatic and superior attitude to conceive its sensitive and insecure nature. The little prince, young, inexperienced, and overwhelmed with his newfound emotions, decides to leave the rose to explore the universe. On his journey, he encounters a bed of roses and feels devastated, thinking that he had been fooled all along, as the rose he cared for was not unique. In the end, he realized the rose was indeed special, because, in contrast to the thousands of roses he passed at glance, the only rose he loved and cared for was that unique one. Thus revealing the important lesson on love – what is important is often invisible to the eye and could only be clear when seen with the heart. With this lesson comes the famed passage:
The men where you live, raise five thousand roses in the same garden – and they do not find in it what they are looking for. And yet what they are looking for could be found in one single rose, or in a little water. But eyes are blind. One must look with the heart.
