This year on the red carpet of the Met Gala 2019, attendees transformed the venue into a feather- and flounce-filled fantasia in the theme of “Camp: Notes on Fashion,”. Inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay “Notes on ‘Camp’,” which explores the different ways “Camp” could be interpreted in fashion, art and cultural contexts, it was a gala of lurid extravagance, artifice and exaggeration. While most styles were eccentric and sublime, Kanye West showed up in a most unexpected fashion statement. In stark contrast to Kim Kardashian's Thierry Mugler-designed dress, Kanye West made a loud statement with his all-black ensemble, highlighted by the unexpectedly understated Dickies Eisenhower Jacket. Amid all the glitter and pomp, Kanye's choice of outerwear was an unexpected subversive choice. For a similar style, the Cherry x Dickies Jacket is also in black with white text embroidery on the back. For a stronger utilitarian aesthetic, the Carhartt Michigan Coat is another option.
