Born in the courts of the '70s
1969 saw the release of the "Leather All Star", a predecessor to the "One Star". It highlighted two distinctive stripes that ran along the lateral sides of the sneaker, with the one-star cut-out centered in-between. Then, after some re-engineering and style updates, most notably the removal of the lateral stripes, the "Leather All Star" became the "All Star", an official basketball shoe. Some prominent features like the low-profile construction allowed for flexibility around the ankle, while NASA-inspired R&D gave way for shock absorbent insoles.
'90s-era 'Cool Hunting' - Then there was the 'One Star'
We can thank '90s-era sub-cultures that gave the 'All Star' its cult status. Japanese vintage collectors and connoisseurs alike were on a craze for finding vintage 'proto'-esque sports footwear between the '80s and '90s. Picked up and adopted by the skaters, the vintage-'Cool Hunters' and even the grunge-rockers, the solitary star had all-of-a-sudden garnered mass street-cred. It was only right then that the 'All Star' would be re-issued - debuting in 1993 and becoming an instant classic - only this time renamed as the one we know today, the 'One Star'. Grunge-icon and legend Kurt Cobain was often seen wearing the 'One Star', affirming the silhouette as a symbol of rebellion and youth. In 2008, Converse paid tribute to Kurt, releasing the Kurt Cobain x One Star. [slider]

Made for Skateboarding
In 2015, Converse Con came out with a new model, the 'One Star Pro'. Packing a bevy of new materials and features, the classic shoe took on a new form in the evolving landscape of the skate-scene. A significant highlight includes a shock absorbent LUNARLON insole adding extra comfort. The shoes are worn by many pro-skaters, including the likes of Sean Pablo.

Hiroshi Fujiwara and Others
Hiroshi Fujiwara, looked to a jazzier mood and visible style update to the classic sneaker by bringing his own twist to the silhouette: The fragment design x Converse One Star '74 collaboration. Other style icons like G-Dragon and even Tyler, the Creator have adopted the silhouette to their own.
