Recap: “MURAKAMI vs MURAKAMI” Hong Kong Exhibition
Most recently, renowned Japanese artist Takashi Murakami has taken his exhibition to Tai Kwun Contemporary in Hong Kong. Fully taking over the spaces of the art gallery, “MURAKAMI vs MURAKAMI” spotlights the diverse range of elements utilized by Murakami which include fashion, cosplay, and graffiti. Showcasing over 60 paintings, it was also the first display of Murakami’s most iconic costumes modeled by custom mannequins — capturing the Japanese artist’s signature poses and expressions. A notable work of the exhibition is the premiere showing of “The Birth Cry of a Universe”, a 4.5-meter-tall gilded sculpture that took over 14 years.
