Introducing: Prada Fall/Winter 2018 Collection
"We are all controlled by machines of many kinds... We are living in a period which is interesting because we do not know where we are going" says Miuccia Prada, during Prada's FW18 showing. The uncertain future of humanity lies in the face of irrevocable technological advancement. The distinction between man and AI seems to blur each day as machine learning and smart algorithms progress exponentially. But Miuccia remains optimistic about the future "The world will be saved by intelligence and humanity and generosity—and possibly love. But, of course, the aesthetic world helps, a little”. Our editorial examines Miuccia Prada's fascination with the race between man versus machine.
Prada's Fall/Winter 2018 collection looks to archival designs from the past, polished and reinterpreted in a range of reconstructed silhouettes, bold graphics as well as new accessories. The collection includes boxy short-sleeve shirts, knitted sweaters, velcro sneakers, light jackets, backpacks, fanny-packs and a slew of notable highlights. The Prada Short-Sleeve Hawaiian Shirt displays an all-over Banana print from an earlier SS11 graphic, while the flames on the same shirt are borrowed from SS12. Prada's iconic "Pocone" black nylon fabric makes an appearance, too. The Prada Black Quilted One Strap Shoulder Sling Backpack and Medium Pouch feature a mix of nylon and the Italian label's treated leather. A Prada Logo sweater and nylon shorts round out the concise assemblage.
