Throwback collections are usually thought of as old-fashioned and antiquated, but CLSC’s 2016 spring/summer collection harks back to past decades without getting stuck there. Founded by Joshua Vides, the LA-based streetwear brand is famous for its original graphics that reference pop culture, particularly sports, sex, drugs and music. The brand’s offerings this season will evoke fond memories for film and TV junkies - graphic tees reference cult classics from Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs to the Simpsons. Even as he references pop culture staples that are long past their prime, Vides has the uncanny gift of revitalizing and modernizing them for the 21st century. The Simpson’s iconic beer-toting superhero, Duffman, is deconstructed as a disembodied but fully clothed figure printed on a white tee, in line with current minimalist leanings. Parodying current and past emblems, CLSC lightens up spring wardrobes with a dose of good humor.
