AN EXCLUSIVE LOOK INTO ENTIRE STUDIOS’ DROP 3

A collection breakdown featuring founders Sebastian Hunt and Dylan Richards.

Following the release of its limited-edition capsule early this year, Entire Studios has just returned to HBX with yet another all-encompassing range of apparel titled Drop 3.

The extensive lineup builds on previous collections and brings forth essential blank sweatsuits, reimagined styles of puffer jackets, and timeless earthy colorways teased in the duo’s last interview. Further elevating the new collection are never-before-seen conceptual womenswear pieces and special fabric treatment methods that enhance silhouettes and textures. Some standouts include the GoCar Cargo Pants with a worn aesthetic, the Fluffy Fleece with a more structured shape, and the form-fitting Bleep Bra and Puffy Corset.

Hypebeast caught up with the New Zealand-born creatives Sebastian Hunt and Dylan Richards to take a closer look at the latest offerings that continue to echo Entire Studio’s brand ethos of being accessible to all every day while retaining the exaggerated proportions signature to their design approach.

What was the inspiration behind this collection’s color selection?

In the past, we have leaned into vibrant colors to highlight new styles. Color can shift the perspective on a silhouette and showcase pieces in a different light. Over time we will continue to build the foundation of color in earthy, timeless tones to ensure the longevity of an Entire Wardrobe. As categories have developed, we’ve added staples that people can reach for time and time again. However, we will always include fun colors when the season calls for it.

How do you name your colorways and silhouettes?

The names for styles and colors are derived from our research during the collections development process. We pull inspiration from areas generally adjacent to fashion, including architecture, nature, and technology. The research and concept development process generates fresh ideas we can exaggerate or build on. Eventually, we arrive at a name that speaks to each piece. The name PFD jacket was inspired by "personal flotation device", while it is clearly not one, the PFDs maximalist proportions reminded us of early life jackets.

Other than the color palette, what are the major updates for drop 3 compared with previous seasons?

This season, we have built on past collections, iterating styles and shapes that have been honed into a core offering; and have introduced new design codes to the range. Drop 3 welcomes conceptual womenswear pieces alongside enzyme-washed cotton and nylon in some of our responsibly sourced down styles. The volume of the exaggerated silhouettes is amplified by layering in the enzyme washing texture. We worked with our manufacturer on a method that would allow us to enzyme-treat the fabric without deforming the internal loft properties. The textured fabric also relates back to our core pieces, and we’ve begun to build out our sweatsuit offering so that Entire is accessible as an everyday staple.

The balance between "every day" and "conceptual" is central to our ethos; so we will always have those pieces that you can reach for on the daily set on the backdrop of conceptual shapes that carry the brand story with them.

Can you talk more about your love for sweat sets?

We have always been fans of sweats, so naturally, they became part of our offering at Entire. Nailing the effortless simplicity in garments like sweats isn’t easy, and while they come across as basics, we have obsessed over every detail from fabric weight to the wash variations. We consider these pieces ‘Entire Uniform’, and a core section will be available as a year-round offering. As the uniform evolves, we will continue to add in considered everyday pieces over time. Sweats are a saturated market, so every item goes through heavy scrutiny -  we think to ourselves, "does this piece deserve to exist? What differentiates our offering? does it align with our values?". Our end goal is to bring a level of design into everyone's wardrobe, where they can reach for pieces again and again, whatever the occasion.

What’s the design process behind the GoCar Cargo Pants?

The goal for the GoCar Cargo pant was to develop relaxed, wearable everyday pants. We pulled inspiration from vintage Japanese military cargo uniforms, and after trialing numerous fabric options, we landed on a washed cotton, nylon & canvas blend, which holds the silhouette nicely while maintaining a worn look. The exaggeration of silhouettes is core to the way we design, so while they’re definitely oversized compared to our original research references, the pockets relate back to the overall proportions and maintain the functional properties of a traditional cargo pant.

What’s the design process behind the Fluffy Fleece?

Silhouettes are fundamental to Entire and many of our items begin with an idea of looking at the profile of a garment and fabrication. We wanted to create a sherpa fleece that pulled inspiration from archive pieces but was instantly recognizable as an Entire proportion. The bonded fleece fabric is more structured than most fleece and is able to hold its shape without being too rigid. Subtle zip detailing adds a sense of functionality and allows for everyday wear.

How was the whole process like for drop 3’s women’s fittings to ensure that different styles fit everyone? The Bleep Bra, Blade Bodysuit, and Puffy Corset seem like particularly challenging silhouettes to gauge the fit for.

It is crucial to see as many different bodies in our clothes as possible throughout the development process. For the drop 3 women's pieces and swimwear, we brought on two contractors who had expertise in swim and women's lingerie. It's an area that requires immaculate attention to fit, so we wanted to get it right. It took around a year and a half with countless fittings in New Zealand and Los Angeles, but we eventually perfected each of them. Every day the collection grows, and we are constantly seeking new talent to bring their expertise and feedback. Ultimately we are aiming to build the "Entire" wardrobe and to do that, we aim to get as many eyes as possible over pieces before they cross the finish line.

Anything else you want to add about the drop?

Drop 3 is a glimpse into the direction Entire Studios is heading. Each step we take is deliberate, and while we have only scratched the surface in terms of our product thus far released, we are highly energized and focused on bringing the full vision to life.
