Since the inception in 2012, Chinese ceramic maker Yeenjoy Studio has amassed a cult with followers after its contemporary spins on Chinese pottery presented in the form of incense burners. With American designer Jeff Staple exploring his Chinese origin, the two forces collide for a piece dubbed “Columbidae Veritas” — limited to 200 pieces. hand painted in China’s heart of ceramic wares Jingdezhen.
Featuring a porcelain pigeon figure atop of a book in monochromatic blue hues, the piece is inspired by Staple Design’s signature pigeon motif. “COLUMBIDAE VERITAS” is inscribed alongside Chinese characters meaning “Scripture of Flying Pigeon” on the book cover. A cork plug is attached to the insertion hole at the chest of the pigeon, with multiple smoke holes on the back and on the side of the book.
